Save text, including formatting, graphics, frames, etc., in a specified text block theme collection. You can then insert these text blocks in a document by entering the respective shortcut and pressing F3.</help:help-text></help:to-be-embedded></p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can quickly access AutoText by clicking the icon <span class="T1">AutoText</span> on the main toolbar and pressing the mouse button. A submenu will open containing the existing sections from which you can select the appropriate AutoText. The abbreviation and name of the AutoText will appear.</p>

<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">If you mark this check box and the first three letters you type match the name of an AutoText entry, a Help tip will appear displaying the respective AutoText name.</help:help-text> Press Enter to replace the characters with the corresponding AutoText. Using the Dummy Text as an example, simply enter <span class="T1">Dum</span> (the Help tip shows <span class="T1">Dummy Text</span>), and press Enter to insert the text.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If multiple entries begin with the same text, such as the <span class="T1">job</span> application blocks, you can press <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">Command</help:case><help:default>Ctrl</help:default></help:switch>+Tab to display the other entries in the Help tip. To view the list in reverse order, press <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">Command</help:case><help:default>Ctrl</help:default></help:switch>+Shift+Tab.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">For a better overview you can assign the AutoText to different categories. Select the appropriate category from the list box below the entry fields. The small plus signs mean that this is a folder. A list of the AutoText contained in this category folder will appear when this plus sign is clicked. If one of the entries is chosen it will be displayed in the entry fields. Use the <span class="T1">Insert</span> button or double click the entry to insert the selected AutoText into your document.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can insert a text block in your text without using a menu command by entering the corresponding shortcut and pressing the F3 key.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click here to display additional commands for organizing text blocks.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">The selected text in the document is saved in the current AutoText specified in the <span class="T1">Name</span> field. This command is only available when the <span class="T1">Name</span> entry has been modified.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">By clicking <span class="T1">New</span> the selected text is incorporated into the AutoText. Formatting, graphics, tables etc. are not transferred.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Use this command to move the marked AutoText into the temporary file.</help:help-text> This function is particularly useful when working with longer blocks of text.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">The contents of the selected AutoText under <span class="T1">Name</span> is replaced by the text selected in the document.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Choose this command to rename the current text block or modify the shortcut.</help:help-text> Enter a new name in the <help:link Id="67612" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Rename Text Block</help:link> dialog.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Select this command to edit the selected text block under <span class="T1">Name</span>. Afterwards, select <span class="T1">File - Save Text Block</span> and then <span class="T1">File - Close</span>.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Assign a macro to the current AutoText block in the <help:link Id="67665">Assign Macro</help:link> <text:s text:c="" xmlns:text="http://openoffice.org/2000/text"/>dialog.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph">You can use the macros that are linked to some of the provided AutoTexts for your own AutoTexts. In your AutoTexts, which you saved using the "Only text" option, you can insert, for example strings such as <field:company> or <placeholder:"Text":"Helptext">. The macros will then exchange these strings for the corresponding field commands.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">If you choose a topic from the large area of the dialog, you can select the <span class="T1">Import...</span> command. A dialog appears which enables you to select an MS 97/2000 Word document or template.</help:help-text> All contained text blocks will be imported as a <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Writer AutoText block.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click here to open the <span class="T1">Edit Categories</span> dialog. Here you can assign text blocks to various categories for a better overview.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">In this dialog you can add or delete text block categories.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Enter a name for the new category here.</help:help-text> In the list you can see which names have already been assigned. In addition to all the letters in the alphabet, other characters are also accepted as case sensitive depending on the file system. Click the <span class="T1">New</span> button to add a new category. By using the <span class="T1">Rename</span> button you can rename an already existing catergory.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">The current path in which the AutoText blocks are saved appears in this field.</help:help-text> Select the path in which you want to save your AutoText.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">As soon as you have entered a new name, this button will become available. Click <span class="T1">New</span> to add the new AutoText category under it's new name.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">If you enter a name in the <span class="T1">Area</span> text box, the <span class="T1">New</span> and <span class="T1">Rename</span> buttons are available. Activate this in order to accept the change,</help:help-text> but first you must have already selected the area which is to be changed in the display window. Remember to exit the <span class="T1">Edit Area</span> dialog by clicking OK, to save all your changes.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Here you will see a list of predefined categories and the corresponding path.</help:help-text> After entering or editing a category, the results will be displayed. The same will occur if a catergory is deleted.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">If you want to use other paths than the default AutoText path, you must add the new paths either by clicking the <span class="T1">Path..</span> button in the AutoText dialog or by modifying the <span class="T1">AutoText</span> entry under <span class="T1">Tools - Options - <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> - Paths</span>.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">The AutoText <help:popup Id="65619" Eid="verknuepfung" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">links</help:popup> can be saved as <help:popup Id="65619" Eid="speichern" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">absolute</help:popup> (drive-specific) or <help:popup Id="65619" Eid="speichern" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">relative</help:popup> (based on the AutoText folder). It is recommended to save links relatively, for example, if the AutoText blocks for all employees on a network are managed on the server, but mapped to different drive letters.</p>
